The National Health Service is turning 70 on 5th July 2018. The NHS is our country’s greatest treasure, the most wonderful thing about the NHS service are the people who make it up. The skill, dedication and love that all NHS staff provide daily is what makes the NHS as great as it is.
On 5th July 1948, the National Health System was launched at Park Hospital in Manchester. In 1948 for the first time, all healthcare professionals were brought together, and they were put under one umbrella. During the last 70 years, the NHS has provided remarkable care as well as delivering huge improvements to public health.
During the 70 years of the NHS service, many milestones have been reached and memorable moments have been made:
- 1953, DNA structure is discovered by two Cambridge University scientists
- 1978, the first test tube baby- Louise Brown is born at Oldham General Hospital
- 1986, the world’s first liver, heart and lung transplant were carried out at Papworth Hospital
- 1994, the NHS Organ Donor card is set up for people wishing to donate their organs
- 2007, a revolutionary robotic arm is used at St Mary’s Hospital in London
- 2016, the UK’s first double hand transplant at Leeds Teaching Hospitals
The history of the National Health System shows how the service has responded to the changing needs of the nation. The NHS has faced many challenges over the years – with the increase in the ageing population and pressure on the service, it looks like a lot more problems will be faced in the future.
The 70th anniversary of the NHS gives us all an opportunity to celebrate the hard work that the NHS has provided for us. To remember the times when they were there for us and gave us the best care possible. The NHS and those that work for the organisation provide constant five-star care to those that are in need.
Celebrate on the 5th July 2018 to show your appreciation to the hard work and vital role that the NHS plays in everyone’s lives. Today provides us chance to look back over the past 70 years and see what milestones the NHS has overcome. The 70th birthday gives us all the perfect opportunity to celebrate together – whether you are throwing a party or a little cake sale, the NHS should be celebrated for the work they do. The NHS is one of the nations most loved institutions and for 70 years now it has been providing the best healthcare and saving millions of lives.
Here at TFS Healthcare we would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those that work with us and provide the best care to their patients. We wouldn’t be able to do it without you and we are grateful for you all every day. Today is a celebration of the NHS but mainly the celebration of those who make up the NHS. Thank you and continue helping and changing peoples lives for the better.
