All NHS nursing staff in England to receive a pay rise of at least 6.5% over three years, with a 3% increase in the first year, it became clear last week.
Following a six-week consultation with RCN members, the majority of NHS trade unions have decided to accept the pay deal.
Three in four RCN members who voted in the consultation said ‘yes’ to the deal. The results were considered and then the deal accepted by the College’s Trade Union Committee.
Jordan Mitchell, Operations Director at TFS Healthcare comments: “We are really pleased with the outcome of the consultation. The deal is definitely a move in the right direction. Staff should be rewarded and recognised for the great work they are doing and we are big supporters of a better payment for all healthcare professionals.”
What happens now?
The deal is expected to receive final approval at a meeting of unions, the NHS and government on 27 June 2018. After this, a formal communication will be sent to all NHS employers to begin paying the higher amount in July’s pay packets.
When am I going to see a difference in my pay?
Basic pay will rise immediately in the NHS in England for everyone on an Agenda for Change pay scale. The increase should show in members’ pay packets at the end of July and will be backdated to 1 April.
How much am I going to get?
The pay increase will be different for each member. Have a look at NHS Pay’s online calculator, where you can see the exact amount you will receive in each year of the three-year deal.
